We are a group of 8 public school teachers in Central Oregon exploring the use of the iPad in the classroom during the 2013-14 school year. We received this classroom technology through a grant funded by the CenturyLink Foundation for Education and OETC – the Organization for Educational Technology & Curriculum. The grant was written and coordinated by the
High Desert Education Service District
Our goal is, for both ourselves as teachers and our students, to use this mobile technology in innovative ways, increase awareness in the educational community of this kind of use of technology in the classroom, and model best practices with technology integration as we improve student achievement.
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are being implemented throughout Oregon and most other states. These standards incorporate expectations of technology use and proficiency throughout the curriculum from Kindergarten on up, rather then treating technology as a separate strand of content or set of skills.
With mobile devices like the iPad already becoming an integral part of student’s lives, our Vision is to leverage this technology in the learning environment, not only to address the CCSS, but to help make the classroom relevant and engaging, empowering students to take greater responsibility for their learning in more collaborative ways using a variety of multimedia, communication, and presentation tools in creative and innovative ways.
Welcome to this web site were our goal is to collaborate with each other, share ideas and resources, and offer our experience of using mobile technology in our classrooms with fellow teachers.
